Has anyone had any success with electronic catflaps? We regularly get neighbour's cats wandering into our house so were thinking of a cat flap that would stop that. Any tips appreciated!
I have an catmate electromagnetic catflap which is excellent. Catmate flaps tend to be larger than Staywell, and having a ball-shaped cat means a larger flap is essential. The only problem is losing the keys, so buy plenty of spares.
There is a catflap that operates via the cat's microchip, called the PetPorte. Seems it would solve this problem, although not sure about the manufacturing quality from photos on the internet. Would be very interested in any opinions on this.
PetPorte sounds great, but put off by the price at £105+...
PetPorts looks good but I agree it's pretty expensive
We have been looking at catflaps-we didn't want a magnetic collar as I think they tend to be rather big. We looked at the petporte, but agree price is an issue (but added bonus of cat being microchipped) and the cat mate elite which uses ID disks for entry. Anyone used any of these with good or bad results? It's difficult to choose the right one!
Have used the ID disks version, it works fine but the disks are quite big (although no heavy) so your cat is constantly walking around with a large key attached to their collar. o experience with the magnetic locks.
Well, funny enough, I just read a post over at http://pets.yourajc.com/ (under "cat health") that actually gives some info about how to keep cats out of specific areas of the house. Maybe it could help keeping the unwanted cats out of the house and save you some money on the cat flap? Just an idea...
