Bought this as a replacement for a Staywell cat flap, we now have 3 cat mate catflaps in the house. In my opinion the cat mate flaps are a better quality and design than the staywell brands and I will only be using Cat Mate in future.
It also appears that the design and materials have been upgraded, our previous cat flaps appear identical apart from some nice changes. The flap itself appears stronger, it is certainly thicker than on previous model, it is almost silent, has more draughtproofing and the switches for the 4 way opening are a better design so the cat is less likely to be able to move them themselves (by scratching), something that did happen with our previous model.
With regard to the flap, we have had 2 broken ones previously, this always happens around the top pivot section, and has always happened in very cold weather, so I suspect the plastic is more brittle when cold, however as I said the new flap appears to be stronger so we will have to see.
I have purchased this product before and always found
it well made and reliable. However, the plastic sliding
locks on this one do not slide easily, as is usually the case. This is a slight inconvenience and not a reason to return the product, but I hope the manufacture will be made aware of the problem.
